CWE-863

Impact

Authenticated users with basic Vision project access can escalate to Designer-level privileges and execute arbitrary code as the Ignition Gateway process. An attacker only needs network access to the gateway and valid low-privilege Vision credentials.

Root cause

The Ignition Perspective module improperly validates session privileges when checking Designer-level access, accepting valid Vision session identifiers instead.

Affected systems

Versions not listed — check the vendor advisory.

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Fix & remediation

Upgrade the Ignition Gateway and Perspective module to the patched release specified in advisory ICSA-26-286-01. If patching must wait, restrict network access to the Ignition Gateway or revoke Vision project access for untrusted accounts.

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

The Ignition Perspective module does not properly validate session privileges when determining Designer-level access. An authenticated user with access to a Vision project could provide their valid Vision session identifier and gain Designer-level privileges. An attacker could exploit these elevated privileges to execute arbitrary code in the context of the Ignition Gateway process.
