Impact
Authenticated attackers with Contributor or higher roles can execute arbitrary PHP code on the underlying web server. They only need access to an account with template-editing privileges.
Root cause
The plugin's templating engine compiles and executes user-supplied template bodies as raw PHP code without sanitization.
Affected systems
affiliate-toolkit WordPress plugin versions prior to 3.9.1
CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Fix & remediation
Upgrade affiliate-toolkit to version 3.9.1 or higher. If you cannot update immediately, deactivate the plugin or revoke Contributor-and-above accounts from untrusted users.
$ wp plugin update affiliate-toolkit --version=3.9.1AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
The affiliate-toolkit WordPress plugin before 3.9.1 does not prevent a low-privileged user from supplying a template body that its bundled templating engine compiles and executes as PHP, allowing users with the Contributor role or above to run arbitrary PHP code on the server.
