- CWE-200
Impact
Unauthenticated attackers can read environment variables, secrets, and server configuration details by requesting the default index file over the network. This only affects deployments that built upon the base image without replacing the placeholder file.
Root cause
Official base Docker images ship with a default /app/public/index.php that calls phpinfo().
Affected systems
FrankenPHP official Debian and Alpine Docker images prior to 1.12.5
CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N
Fix & remediation
Upgrade base images to FrankenPHP 1.12.5 or later. As an immediate fix, ensure your Dockerfile copies your actual application code over /app/public/index.php or delete that default file.
$ docker run --rm --entrypoint cat dunglas/frankenphp:latest /app/public/index.phpAI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
FrankenPHP is a modern application server for PHP. Prior to 1.12.5, the official FrankenPHP Debian and Alpine Docker images include a default /app/public/index.php that executes phpinfo(). A derived image that does not overwrite this placeholder serves the diagnostics page in production and can disclose environment variables used for secrets, PHP configuration directives, loaded extensions, software versions, and system paths. Images built using the documented pattern with their own /app/public/index.php are not affected, and already derived images must be rebuilt or supplied with an application index to remove the exposed placeholder. This issue is fixed in version 1.12.5.
