Impact

Unauthenticated remote attackers can execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browsers of site administrators when they view form submissions. An attacker only needs network access to submit a malicious payload via a contact form.

Root cause

Contact form field values are serialized and base64-encoded into the database, then displayed in admin/ecf_index.php inside HTML attributes and table cells without input sanitization or output escaping.

Affected systems

Contact Form DB for Enfold WordPress plugin through version 2.0.2

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N

Fix & remediation

No fixed version is specified in the advisory; deactivate and delete the Contact Form DB for Enfold plugin immediately to mitigate risk.

shell
$ wp plugin deactivate contact-form-db-for-enfold

NVD description

The Contact Form DB for Enfold plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Contact Form Field Values in all versions up to, and including, 2.0.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The payload is echoed unescaped both inside a title HTML attribute and in the table cell body in admin/ecf_index.php; base64 encoding and serialization of the stored values do not neutralize the malicious content.
