- CWE-197
Impact
Remote unauthenticated attackers can crash the routing protocol daemon (rpd), causing a denial of service on the device. Exploitation requires sending a malformed BGP Prefix-SID route advertisement that the router subsequently re-advertises.
Root cause
A numeric truncation error occurs in the rpd daemon while processing and re-advertising BGP Prefix-SID route updates.
Affected systems
Juniper Networks Junos OS versions starting from 20.4R1 and Junos OS Evolved versions starting from 20.4R1-EVO (exact fixed releases not listed — check vendor advisory JSA112187).

Fix & remediation
Upgrade to the fixed Junos release specified in Juniper advisory JSA112187. As an interim workaround, reject or strip untrusted BGP Prefix-SID route attributes at external peering boundaries using import policies.

NVD description
A Numeric Truncation Error vulnerability in the rpd process of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an unauthenticated network-based attacker to cause a denial of service via a BGP Prefix-SID route advertisement that is subsequently re-advertised. This issue does not affect versions of Junos OS prior to 20.4R1. This issue does not affect versions of Junos OS Evolved prior to 20.4R1-EVO
