Impact

Authenticated remote attackers can execute arbitrary OS commands with full system compromise. They require network access to the router's web management interface and low-privileged credentials.

Root cause

Improper input sanitization of the usefile, usescript, and option arguments in /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi leads to OS command injection.

Affected systems

DrayTek Vigor2960 version 1.5.1.6 Revision 8218 (device is End of Support).

Fix & remediation

Upgrade firmware to version 1.5.1.7 or retire the unsupported device. As an immediate mitigation, disable remote WAN access to the web management interface and restrict administrative access to trusted internal IP addresses only.
