Impact
Remote attackers can crash your service or corrupt process memory by supplying a malformed font file. They only need to send untrusted font data to an application that renders text using a non-zero stroke width.
Root cause
During FreeType rendering with an active stroker, a failed glyph load triggers cleanup code that calls FT_Done_Glyph on an uninitialized or stale pointer.
Affected systems
Pillow 10.0.0 before 13.0.0

Fix & remediation
Upgrade Pillow to version 13.0.0 or later. If upgrading immediately is not possible, disable text rendering with non-zero stroke widths on untrusted fonts.
$ pip install --upgrade 'pillow>=13.0.0'AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
Pillow is a Python imaging library. From 10.0.0 until 13.0.0, Pillow can free an invalid glyph pointer during FreeType rendering with an active stroker. If FT_Load_Glyph fails, cleanup may call FT_Done_Glyph on an uninitialized or stale glyph variable. An attacker can supply a malformed font as untrusted bytes to an application that draws text with a nonzero stroke width, forcing the glyph-load failure path. This can corrupt memory or crash the process. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.
