Weakness
CWE-862

Impact

Low-privilege users can grant themselves administrator privileges, create admin accounts, and take full control of managed Kafka clusters. An attacker only needs basic network access and any valid low-privilege EFAK user account.

Root cause

The /api/users endpoints in UserController lack administrator role checks, allowing any authenticated user to send POST, PUT, and DELETE account management requests.

Affected systems

EFAK through 5.1.0

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Fix & remediation

No fixed release is documented. Restrict network access to the EFAK web interface via reverse proxy or firewall, or block POST, PUT, and DELETE methods on the /api/users path for non-admin sessions until a patch is available.

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

EFAK through 5.1.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability that allows authenticated low-privilege users to manage accounts because the /api/users endpoints lack administrator role checks. Attackers can send POST, PUT, or DELETE requests to UserController to grant themselves ROLE_ADMIN, create administrators, or delete users, gaining control of managed Kafka clusters.
