CWE-863

Impact

Authenticated students can tamper with stored HTML and titles or delete arbitrary lessons across their own and other organizations' courses. An attacker only needs any valid course member account and network access to the API.

Root cause

The PUT and DELETE /:lessonId route handlers fail to enforce role-based access control and tenant scoping, letting any member modify or delete lessons.

Affected systems

ClassroomIO through 1.0.0

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L

Fix & remediation

No patched version is specified in the advisory; restrict access or block PUT and DELETE requests to /:lessonId at your reverse proxy (e.g., NGINX/Cloudflare) until upstream authorization patches are applied.

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

ClassroomIO through 1.0.0 contains an incorrect authorization vulnerability in the PUT and DELETE /:lessonId lesson routes that allows any course member, including students, to modify lessons. Authenticated students can supply arbitrary lesson ids to change titles and stored HTML content or delete lessons in their course and in other courses and organizations.
