CWE-79

Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can execute arbitrary JavaScript in an administrator's browser context to compromise the WordPress site. They only need network access to submit a payload via a publicly exposed form nonce.

Root cause

The plugin fails to sanitize and escape the 'mmdwqzpoxadd' parameter when storing it and rendering it in the admin Payment Form Details metabox.

Affected systems

WordPress GetPaid (invoicing) plugin versions up to, and including, 2.8.61

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N

Fix & remediation

Upgrade GetPaid to a version newer than 2.8.61 once available, or pull the latest patched code directly from the plugin repository. If upgrading immediately is not possible, deactivate the GetPaid plugin.

shell
$ wp plugin update invoicing

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

The Payment forms, Buy now buttons, and Invoicing System | GetPaid plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'mmdwqzpoxadd' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.8.61 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The required nonce (getpaid_form_nonce) is publicly emitted to all visitors via wp_localize_script as WPInv.formNonce, meaning no authentication or prior nonce leak is needed; the stored payload fires when an administrator views the affected invoice's Payment Form Details metabox.
