Impact
Authenticated workflow creators can execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browser sessions of users visiting a published Chat Trigger page on the instance origin. This lets them hijack sessions or perform actions as the signed-in visitor.
Root cause
The Chat Trigger hosted-chat page unsafely interpolates user-supplied customCss values as markup without sufficient sanitization.
Affected systems
n8n before 1.123.83, 2.x before 2.41.4, and 2.42.x before 2.42.1

Fix & remediation
Upgrade n8n to version 1.123.83, 2.41.4, 2.42.1, or later. If upgrading immediately is not possible, disable or restrict workflows using the Chat Trigger node.
$ npm update -g n8nAI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
n8n before 1.123.83, 2.x before 2.41.4, and 2.42.x before 2.42.1 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the Chat Trigger hosted-chat page, where insufficiently sanitised customCss values are interpolated into the page as markup. Workflow authors can publish a chat without n8n user authentication whose payload executes on the instance origin, acting on the sessions of signed-in visitors.
