Impact
Authenticated members with workflow:read access can take over owner accounts that lack MFA and gain full system control. Attackers need valid low-privileged credentials to reach the MCP workflow-validation tool.
Root cause
The MCP workflow-validation interpreter runs untrusted code in the main process and allows assignment onto shared JavaScript prototypes.
Affected systems
n8n before 2.41.4 and 2.42.x before 2.42.1

Fix & remediation
Upgrade to n8n 2.41.4, 2.42.1, or later. If upgrading must wait, enforce MFA on all owner accounts and restrict workflow:read access.
$ npm install -g n8n@latestAI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
n8n before 2.41.4 and 2.42.x before 2.42.1 contains a prototype pollution vulnerability in the MCP workflow-validation tool, whose interpreter evaluates caller-supplied code in the main process, reads inherited properties, and permits assignment onto shared prototypes. An authenticated member holding only a workflow:read grant can replace a built-in method with one returning a truthy value so server-side permission checks accept unheld scopes, enabling takeover of owner accounts not protected by MFA.
