CWE-502

Impact

Authenticated users with Test creation or import permissions can execute arbitrary code by writing PHP files through gadget chains. They only need low-privilege access allowing Test archive imports.

Root cause

The Test results import parser passes an untrusted tst_sequence sequence attribute directly into PHP's unserialize() function.

Affected systems

ILIAS versions before 9.24, 10.12, and 11.5

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Fix & remediation

Upgrade ILIAS to version 9.24, 10.12, 11.5, or later. If patching immediately is not possible, revoke Test creation and import permissions from non-administrative users.

shell
$ git pull && git checkout v9.24.0

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
