Weakness
CWE-639

Impact

Authenticated low-privileged attackers can complete, approve, or reassign arbitrary workflow tasks belonging to other users. To exploit this, an attacker only needs network access with valid credentials and a known taskId.

Root cause

The /vue/buttonOperation endpoints lack authorization checks, failing to verify task ownership or user permissions before executing complete or reassign actions.

Affected systems

WorkFlow-Engine through 9.6.11

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N

Fix & remediation

Upgrade to a fixed version beyond 9.6.11 once released by the vendor. If an update is unavailable, restrict or block network access to the /vue/buttonOperation/complete, /completeTask, and /reAssign endpoints at the reverse proxy or API gateway.

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

WorkFlow-Engine through 9.6.11 contains a missing authorization vulnerability that allows authenticated users to complete or reassign other users' workflow tasks via /vue/buttonOperation endpoints. Low-privileged attackers can supply a known taskId to the complete, completeTask or reAssign handlers to approve tasks or reassign them without authority.
