CWE-88

Impact

Unauthenticated remote attackers can read arbitrary local JSON files from the server filesystem. They only need network access to the /rpc/http or /rpc/ws endpoints.

Root cause

The Service.Formats JSON-RPC handler fails to sanitize or separate dash-prefixed input passed to the url parameter, letting user input execute as command-line arguments to yt-dlp.

Affected systems

yt-dlp-web-ui through 4.0.0

Fix & remediation

No fixed version is listed; block or restrict access to the /rpc/http and /rpc/ws endpoints, or take the yt-dlp-web-ui service offline until a patch is released.

NVD description

yt-dlp-web-ui through 4.0.0 contains an argument injection vulnerability that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to inject yt-dlp options by supplying a dash-prefixed url parameter to the Service.Formats JSON-RPC method. Attackers can send values like --load-info-json via /rpc/http or /rpc/ws to make yt-dlp load attacker-chosen JSON files from the server filesystem, with contents reflected in responses.
