Impact

Attackers can run malicious JavaScript in operators' browsers to hijack sessions or tamper with data. They need low-privilege network credentials with write access to item master data and an operator to view the affected record.

Root cause

Item record names are rendered directly into the UI without proper HTML escaping.

Affected systems

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.110.0, and 16.x versions before 16.21.0.

Fix & remediation

Upgrade Frappe ERPNext to 15.110.0, 16.21.0, or later. If patching immediately is not possible, restrict write access to item master data to trusted users.

shell
$ bench update --apps erpnext
