Impact

Authenticated attackers can trigger transactional emails containing details of documents they are unauthorized to access. They only need standard authenticated API or web access to the ERPNext instance.

Root cause

Endpoints responsible for sending transactional emails fail to verify read permissions for the requested documents before dispatching them.

Affected systems

Frappe ERPNext before 15.119.0 and 16.x before 16.31.0

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N

Fix & remediation

Upgrade Frappe ERPNext to version 15.119.0, 16.31.0, or later. If patching immediately is not possible, restrict untrusted user access or disable transactional email endpoints at the reverse proxy.

shell
$ bench update --apps erpnext

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

Frappe ERPNext before 15.119.0 and 16.x before 16.31.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in which certain endpoints fail to verify that the caller may read a document before sending transactional email about it. Authenticated attackers can call these endpoints to trigger transactional email for documents they are not permitted to read.
