CWE-918

Impact

Authenticated users with operational roles can force the ERPNext server to make outbound HTTP requests to internal, non-routable network addresses. They require network access to the application and standard operational user credentials.

Root cause

A configuration field writable by common operational roles lacks input validation, permitting arbitrary destination hosts for outbound requests.

Affected systems

Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.112.0 and 16.x versions before 16.23.0.

Fix & remediation

Upgrade Frappe ERPNext to version 15.112.0, 16.23.0, or newer. If patching cannot happen immediately, restrict write permissions on configuration fields to trusted administrative roles only.

shell
$ bench update --apps erpnext

NVD description

Frappe ERPNext before 15.112.0 and 16.x before 16.23.0 contains a server-side request forgery vulnerability caused by a configuration field, writable by common operational roles, that accepts an arbitrary outbound request destination without validation. Authenticated attackers can set the field to hosts of their choosing, making the server issue requests to addresses reachable only from inside the deployment's network.
