Impact
Authenticated users can spoof the organization's identity to send arbitrary emails to any recipient. The attacker only needs low-privileged access to the ERPNext instance.
Root cause
A transactional email endpoint fails to verify caller authorization before dispatching messages via the site's configured outgoing email account.
Affected systems
Frappe ERPNext versions before 15.121.3 and 16.x before 16.35.0
CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N
Fix & remediation
Upgrade ERPNext to version 15.121.3, 16.35.0, or newer. If unable to patch immediately, disable outgoing email accounts or restrict network access to trusted users.
$ bench update --apps erpnextAI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
Frappe ERPNext before 15.121.3 and 16.x before 16.35.0 contains a missing authorization vulnerability in an endpoint that sends transactional email through the site's configured outgoing account without checking the caller's authorization. Any authenticated user can supply arbitrary recipient lists and message content to send attacker-controlled messages carrying the organisation's sending identity.
