CWE-73

Impact

Authenticated attackers can read arbitrary server files by injecting local file paths into outgoing email HTML. They only need access to a Frappe account capable of supplying outgoing email content.

Root cause

Improper handling of HTML attributes in outgoing emails allows local file paths to be included and exfiltrated.

Affected systems

Frappe Framework versions before 15.117.0 and 16.x before 16.30.0

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N

Fix & remediation

Upgrade Frappe Framework to version 15.117.0, 16.30.0, or newer. If you cannot patch immediately, restrict untrusted users from drafting or sending outgoing email templates and HTML content.

shell
$ bench update --apps frappe
