CWE-79

Impact

Authenticated backend users with data object edit rights can execute arbitrary JavaScript in another user's session when they view version previews or diffs. This requires an attacker to save a malicious payload and trick another backend user into opening the affected version view.

Root cause

ExternalImage fields do not properly sanitize or escape URLs, allowing attribute-breaking payloads in preview_version.html.twig.

Affected systems

Pimcore through 2026.3.1

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N

Fix & remediation

No fixed version is specified in the advisory; mitigate immediately by restricting data object edit permissions to trusted backend users until a patch is released.

shell
$ composer show pimcore/pimcore

NVD description

Pimcore through 2026.3.1 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows authenticated backend users to inject scripts by storing unescaped URLs in ExternalImage fields. Attackers with data object edit permission can store attribute-breaking payloads that execute JavaScript in the admin origin when other users open version preview or diff views.
