Impact
Remote attackers can crash the application processing images by supplying a specially crafted file. Exploitation requires memory allocation to fail during decoding.
Root cause
A use-after-free occurs in the WBINFO decoder when error handling reuses freed memory after a failed memory allocation.
Affected systems
ImageMagick 7.1.2-30 before 7.1.2-32
CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L
Fix & remediation
Upgrade ImageMagick to version 7.1.2-32 or newer. If unable to patch immediately, disable the WBINFO coder in policy.xml.
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade imagemagickAI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
ImageMagick 7.1.2-30 before 7.1.2-32 contains a use after free vulnerability in the WBINFO decoder that occurs when a memory allocation fails during image decoding. Attackers can supply a crafted image that, when decoded under memory allocation failure conditions, causes freed memory to be reused, crashing the application.
