CWE-617

Impact

A malicious RDP server can crash your FreeRDP client when you connect to it. Exploitation requires convincing a user to connect to an untrusted server with USB redirection enabled.

Root cause

FreeRDP fails to validate the OutputBufferSize parameter in URBDRC packets, passing values above INT32_MAX to libusb and triggering an assertion failure.

Affected systems

FreeRDP 3.11.0 before 3.32.1

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L

Fix & remediation

Upgrade FreeRDP to version 3.32.1 or newer. If you cannot upgrade immediately, avoid connecting to untrusted RDP hosts and disable USB redirection (URBDRC).

shell
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade freerdp3-x11

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

FreeRDP 3.11.0 before 3.32.1 contains a reachable assertion vulnerability in urb_isoch_transfer that allows malicious RDP servers to crash clients by sending unvalidated OutputBufferSize values. Attackers can send a TS_URB_ISOCH_TRANSFER IN-direction request with OutputBufferSize above INT32_MAX over URBDRC, triggering an assertion in libusb_udev_isoch_transfer that terminates the client.
