Weakness
CWE-79

Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can inject persistent malicious scripts to execute in users' browsers when viewing imported pages. To exploit this, the attacker must control an external RSS feed already configured for import on the target WordPress site.

Root cause

The plugin fails to sanitize and properly escape the 'media:thumbnail@url' attribute parsed from incoming RSS feeds.

Affected systems

RSS Aggregator by Feedzy WordPress plugin versions up to and including 5.2.11

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N

Fix & remediation

Upgrade the Feedzy RSS Feeds plugin to version 5.2.12 or newer. If you cannot patch immediately, disable the plugin or pause/remove imports from untrusted external RSS feeds.

shell
$ wp plugin update feedzy-rss-feeds

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

The RSS Aggregator by Feedzy – Feed to Post, Autoblogging, News & YouTube Video Feeds Aggregator plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'media:thumbnail@url' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 5.2.11 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires the attacker to control an external RSS feed that the target site has already configured for import; no WordPress account or special plugin configuration is needed beyond that condition.
