Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can inject persistent malicious scripts that execute in victim browsers when viewing pages. This requires unmoderated comments enabled on at least one post and a configured secondary language.

Root cause

The plugin fails to sanitize and escape input from the comment parameter before rendering it on translated pages.

Affected systems

TranslatePress – Translate Multilingual sites with AI Translation plugin up to and including version 3.3.7.

Fix & remediation

Upgrade to a version newer than 3.3.7. If you cannot update immediately, require manual approval for all comments or disable comments entirely under WordPress Discussion settings.

shell

NVD description

The TranslatePress – Translate Multilingual sites with AI Translation plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'comment' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.3.7 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the target site to allow unmoderated comment submission on at least one post and to have a secondary language configured — both conditions reflect TranslatePress's primary use case.
