- CWE-73
Impact
Authenticated low-privilege users can read arbitrary files and server secrets off the host over the network. They only need access to a registered account.
Root cause
The application fails to sanitize an external control file name or path parameter, permitting arbitrary file retrieval.
Affected systems
EnergizeLab station-middleware (NestJS) Docker images 1.6.5 through 1.8.2
CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H
Fix & remediation
Upgrade station-middleware to a version newer than 1.8.2 once published. In the interim, restrict network access to the middleware container or disable untrusted account registration.
$ docker inspect --format '{{.Config.Image}}' $(docker ps -q --filter ancestor=station-middleware)AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
EnergizeLab station-middleware (NestJS) Docker images 1.6.5 through 1.8.2 allow any registered, low-privilege account to read arbitrary files from the server by supplying an attacker-controlled file path. This exposes middleware files and server secrets.
