Weakness
CWE-502

Impact

Unauthenticated remote attackers can achieve remote code execution, file deletion, or data exposure if a usable POP chain exists in another installed plugin or theme. Attackers only need network access to store a serialized payload via the public favorites page and trigger it by viewing an image in a private gallery.

Root cause

The plugin directly deserializes untrusted user input without sanitization or validation.

Affected systems

Sunshine Photo Cart plugin for WordPress versions up to and including 3.7.4

CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H

Fix & remediation

Update Sunshine Photo Cart to a version newer than 3.7.4 once available. If a patched release is not available, deactivate or uninstall the plugin immediately.

shell
$ wp plugin update sunshine-photo-cart

AI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?

NVD description

The Sunshine Photo Cart – Client Photo Gallery & Photo Proofing for Photographers plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to PHP Object Injection in all versions up to, and including, 3.7.4 via deserialization of untrusted input . This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject a PHP Object. No known POP chain is present in the vulnerable software, which means this vulnerability has no impact unless another plugin or theme containing a POP chain is installed on the site. If a POP chain is present via an additional plugin or theme installed on the target system, it may allow the attacker to perform actions like delete arbitrary files, retrieve sensitive data, or execute code depending on the POP chain present. If a POP chain is present via an additional plugin or theme installed on the target system, the attacker can store the malicious payload unauthenticated via the public favorites page and trigger deserialization by viewing any image in a non-viewable or private gallery.
