Impact
A configured BGP FlowSpec peer can execute arbitrary code on the Routing Engine or crash the routing daemon via crafted FlowSpec route re-advertisements. Attackers must already have an established BGP peering session with FlowSpec and update-threading enabled.
Root cause
A stack-based buffer overflow occurs in the BGP routing daemon when handling FlowSpec route re-advertisements while BGP update-threading is active.
Affected systems
Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved; exact version ranges not listed — check the vendor advisory.
CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Fix & remediation
Upgrade to the patched Junos OS/Junos OS Evolved release referenced in Juniper advisory JSA112187. As an immediate workaround, disable BGP update-threading or remove FlowSpec peering configurations from untrusted neighbors.
