Impact
Remote, unauthenticated BGP peers can crash the routing protocol daemon (rpd), causing a denial of service across the device. They need an established BGP session capable of sending EVPN multicast updates that get readvertised.
Root cause
The routing protocol daemon mishandles inconsistent length parameters when attempting to readvertise a malformed BGP EVPN multicast update.

Fix & remediation
Upgrade to the patched Junos OS / Junos OS Evolved release referenced in JSA112187. If you cannot patch immediately, filter or restrict untrusted BGP EVPN peer sessions that could inject malformed multicast routes.

NVD description
An Improper Handling of Length Parameter Inconsistency vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an attacker sending a specifically malformed BGP EVPN multicast update which is attempted to be readvertised to cause an rpd crash.
