- CWE-918
Impact
Authenticated attackers can perform server-side request forgery (SSRF) to access internal network resources via repository imports. They need an authenticated GitLab account and network access to trigger import operations.
Root cause
A time-of-check to time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition in URL validation allows internal addresses to bypass checks during repository imports.
Affected systems
GitLab CE/EE versions 10.3 before 19.2.8, 19.3 before 19.3.5, and 19.4 before 19.4.2.
CVSS v3.1 · CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:N
Fix & remediation
Upgrade to GitLab CE/EE 19.2.8, 19.3.5, 19.4.2, or later. No interim mitigation is provided in the advisory, so upgrade the instance to resolve the issue.
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade gitlab-eeAI-suggested. Run it in staging first and check it against the vendor advisory. Why?
NVD description
GitLab has remediated an issue in GitLab CE/EE affecting all versions from 10.3 before 19.2.8, 19.3 before 19.3.5, and 19.4 before 19.4.2 that, under certain conditions, could have allowed an authenticated user to perform server-side request forgery and reach internal network resources due to a time-of-check to time-of-use race condition in URL validation during repository import operations.
